BREAKING: Explosion Reported at Godka Jilacow Hours After Mogadishu Road Reopenings

ree

MOGADISHU, Somalia – An explosion has been reported inside Godka Jilacow, a high-security detention facility operated by Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in the Benadir region on Saturday evening.

Local journalist Abdulkadir Ok reported the incident on social media, saying, “The explosion occurred inside Godka Jilacow, the headquarters of NISA in the Benadir region. Gunfire is currently ongoing inside Godka Jilacow.”

The cause of the blast and details of any casualties remain unclear, as security forces have cordoned off the area and restricted access to the site.

The incident comes just hours after the Somali government announced the reopening of more than 50 roads in Mogadishu that had previously been closed for security reasons. The move, which included the removal of concrete barriers, was presented as a sign of improving security in the capital.

For years, the blocked roads had caused severe congestion and daily hardship for residents and commuters.

Authorities have not yet commented on whether the explosion is linked to the recent easing of security measures.

This is a developing story. CitizenSom will continue to monitor updates from security officials and eyewitnesses.
