Nairobi, Kenya – Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two women after a major stash of counterfeit US currency was uncovered in Nairobi.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation in Upper Hill, where officers intercepted the suspects, identified as Ifrah Ali Jeyte and Qamar Salat Abdi.

According to the DCI, a search at the scene revealed bundles of fake $100 notes concealed inside a handbag. When the currency was counted at the DCI Nairobi Area Headquarters, it amounted to USD 560,000, equivalent to nearly Ksh 70 million.
Both suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are finalized.
Growing Concern Over Counterfeit Currency
Kenya has in recent years witnessed several incidents of fake currency circulation, with authorities warning that counterfeit money poses risks to the economy and undermines public trust in financial systems. Criminal syndicates often target high-value foreign currencies such as the US dollar, exploiting unsuspecting businesses and individuals in cross-border transactions.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant against counterfeit money and to report suspicious activities through DCI’s anonymous hotlines.
