Senior Al-Shabaab Commanders Killed in NISA-Led Operation in Hiiraan

Mogadishu, September 03, 2025 – A special operation jointly conducted by Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and international partners has targeted militants in the Shaw area of Hiiraan region, killing several senior leaders of the extremist group Al-Shabaab (locally referred to as Khawaarij) along with numerous fighters.
According to security officials, the operation was carefully planned and struck a gathering site where the militants were organizing activities. Among those eliminated were key commanders accused of orchestrating deadly attacks against civilians and security forces in Somalia.
Authorities emphasized that operations against the group will continue across different regions, highlighting that cooperation between Somali forces, local communities, and international allies remains crucial in sustaining recent security gains.
The successful raid in Hiiraan is being seen as a clear message that extremist leaders will find no safe haven in Somalia, as the government intensifies efforts to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s network and restore lasting peace.
