MOGADISHU – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Monday met with the European Union’s newly appointed ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation between Mogadishu and Brussels.

During talks at his office, Hamza congratulated Di Mauro on her new role and emphasized the importance of EU support in advancing peace, development and Somalia’s ongoing reconstruction efforts, according to a statement from his office.

Ambassador Di Mauro thanked the Somali government and people for what she described as a warm reception and reaffirmed her commitment to deepening relations. She highlighted the EU’s readiness to work closely with Somalia on shared priorities.

The European Union is one of Somalia’s largest international partners, providing assistance in governance, security, humanitarian aid, and economic recovery. Brussels has been a key supporter of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and has funded programs aimed at stabilizing the country and countering the threat posed by al-Shabab militants.
