France to Recognize the State of Palestine, President Macron Declares

Paris – July 24, 2025 — In a historic shift in foreign policy, French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that France will officially recognize the State of Palestine, reaffirming the country’s longstanding commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.

“True to its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine,” Macron declared.

The official recognition will be formally announced during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September. The French president tied the decision directly to the urgent need to end the ongoing war in Gaza, calling for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and massive humanitarian aid for civilians.

“The urgency is today — for the war in Gaza to end and the civilian population to be rescued. Peace is possible,” Macron said.

He emphasized that peace in the region requires a comprehensive approach, including the demilitarization of Hamas, the rebuilding of Gaza, and the construction of a viable Palestinian state that recognizes Israel and contributes to regional security.

“We must also guarantee the demilitarization of Hamas, secure and rebuild Gaza. At last, it is necessary to build the State of Palestine, ensure its viability, and allow that by accepting its demilitarization and fully acknowledging Israel, it participates in the safety of everyone in the Middle East.”

Calling peace the only path forward, Macron added: “There is no alternative. The French want peace in the Middle East. It is up to us — the French, together with Israelis, Palestinians, our European and international partners — to demonstrate that it is possible.”

The French president revealed that he has already written to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, affirming his determination to move forward based on the commitments Abbas has made.“Trust, clarity, and commitment. We will win peace,” Macron concluded.

This bold step marks a significant moment in France’s diplomatic role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and may influence broader European and international efforts toward a two-state solution.
