Gaza – Israeli forces have opened fire on Palestinians waiting for food aid at multiple distribution sites in Gaza, killing at least 31 people and injuring dozens more. This deadly assault adds to a staggering toll, with more than 70 Palestinians killed in attacks since dawn, according to local health officials.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate rapidly. In the past 24 hours alone, at least 14 Palestinians, including a baby, have died from malnutrition, as aid remains critically limited.
Speaking at the United Nations during discussions on the Israel-Palestine conflict, UN Secretary-General António Guterres issued a forceful statement, saying:
“Nothing can justify the obliteration of Gaza that has unfolded before the eyes of the world.”
Meanwhile, UN Humanitarian Chief Martin Griffiths told Al Jazeera that while Israel's recent move to allow more aid into Gaza is welcome, it is merely a “drop in the ocean” due to ongoing severe restrictions that continue to block vital, life-saving assistance.
Since Israel’s war on Gaza began, at least 59,921 Palestinians have been killed, and 145,233 wounded, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. On the Israeli side, 1,139 people were killed and over 200 taken hostage during the Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attacks.
The situation remains dire, with growing international calls for an immediate ceasefire and a sustainable, just resolution rooted in a two-state solution.
