Public Holiday on September 04 to Mark Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Birthday

Mogadishu, September 03, 2025 – The Ministry of Labor has reminded all government and private sector employees that Thursday, 12th Rabi’ al-Awwal 1447 Hijri, corresponding to September 04, 2025, will be a public holiday in Somalia to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The day, known as Mawlid al-Nabi, is observed every year on the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal and holds deep cultural and religious significance for Muslims around the world.

In Somalia, the occasion is traditionally commemorated with Qur’an recitations, religious lectures, gatherings of scholars, and community prayers that highlight the Prophet’s timeless message of mercy, unity, and justice. Families and communities also come together to reflect on his life and teachings, reinforcing values of compassion and solidarity.

The annual holiday not only provides a day of rest but also serves as a reminder of the Prophet’s guiding example and his central place in the spiritual and cultural life of Somali society.
