Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre Marks Three Years in Office with Public Q&A Session

MOGADISHU, Sept. 16, 2025 — Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre on Monday evening attended a public session where he responded to questions about his three years in office, addressing concerns over political stability and his role as head of government.

The event, which coincided with his third anniversary in office, gave citizens the opportunity to directly question the prime minister about governance, security, and political challenges facing the country. Mr. Barre described the three-year period as "little when counting" but noted it has been marked by significant political and social hurdles.

When asked whether he was considering resignation due to instability in federal member states such as Jubbaland and Puntland, the prime minister firmly dismissed the idea. He stressed that his appointment was not driven by clan influence or political lobbying. “None of my clans or representatives went to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to persuade him to appoint me,” he said.

Mr. Barre reaffirmed his commitment to national unity, declaring himself the prime minister of all Somalis regardless of region or background. “I serve the Somali community wherever they are, and as long as I have their support, I will continue to fulfill my duties,” he told attendees.
