Somalia airstrike: US targets al-Shabaab suspect, clan elder killed

BADHAN, Somalia (CITIZENSOM.COM) — The U.S. military said it carried out airstrikes near the northeastern Somali town of Badhan on Sept. 13, targeting an al-Shabaab weapons dealer. Local police reported the strike killed a clan elder, prompting an investigation by regional authorities.
Police in Sanaag region identified the man as Omar Abdullahi Abdi Ibrahim. He was described as a respected elder in the community.
AFRICOM said the strike was conducted in coordination with Somalia’s federal government. No further details were given.
The death of a civilian elder has raised concern among local residents and leaders, who condemned the strike and demanded answers.
