Mogadishu, September 03, 2025 – Somalia has registered a major improvement in the 2025 Global Peace Index (GPI), moving out of the world’s ten least secure countries for the first time in years, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence.
The report places Somalia 14th, compared to 6th in 2022, reflecting steady progress since the re-election of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. The Ministry said the shift underscores government-led efforts to reinforce security, intensify operations against Al-Shabaab, and promote political stability.
“This achievement has been made possible through the bravery of the Somali National Armed Forces, the resilience of the Somali people, and the consistent support of international partners committed to Somalia’s peace and state-building process,” the statement read.
Officials added that Somalia’s progress on the GPI highlights both the sacrifices made on the battlefield and the country’s growing capacity to consolidate peace. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continue strengthening security and stability, guided by the vision of a peaceful, united, and prosperous Somalia.
